Your results show that you meet the language requirements for your chosen course.
Step 4: Genuine Student (GS) Requirement
The Genuine Student (GS) requirement helps the Australian Government ensure that your main purpose is to study, not to migrate permanently. You’ll need to answer questions about:
- Your family, work, and financial situation
- Why you chose your course and Australia
- How this course will benefit your future
- Your study history and any previous visas
💡 The “Genuine Student Assessment” and “GS Agent Checklist” are tools used to verify your motivations, especially if you apply through an agent.
Step 5: Financial Capacity Requirement
You must show that you can afford your studies and living expenses. Currently, international students need to prove access to at least AUD 29,710 to cover:
Tuition fees
Travel costs
Living expenses (rent, food, etc.)
(click here to estimate your living cost)
For more information, visit the Department of Home Affairs website, and navigate to ‘Gather your documents’.
Step 6: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
Having OSHC is mandatory for the entire duration of your stay in Australia. It helps you pay for:
Doctor and hospital visits
Prescription medicines
Ambulance services in emergencies
Remember to order your OSHC card before you travel!
Step 7: Health Requirement
You may be required to complete a medical examination to prove that you meet Australia’s health standards. You can complete this in advance using the My Health Declarations service.
Step 8: Character Requirement
You’ll need to meet certain character standards, including answering questions about your background and behaviour.
In some cases, you may need to provide a police certificate.
Step 9: Apply using ImmiAccount
All visa applications are submitted online through your ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website.
⚠️ You don’t need an agent, but if you’d like help, make sure to choose a registered migration agent or legal practitioner.
Step 10: Prepare for Your Travel
Once your visa is approved, you can prepare for your trip! Check the latest entry and travel requirements before you leave to make sure everything is in order.
💡 Tip: Start your visa process 3–4 months before your course begins to avoid delays.
